Yad Hashmona is a village east of Jerusalem. It is unique in Israel and in all the
world as it is comprised of both Jews and Gentiles who believe that Jesus
Christ (Yeshua) is the Messiah ... foretold to come by many
prophets in the Old Testament.
They have a very interesting history; in fact, many would say that their existence is a miracle. Why? Because it was over 40 years ago that some Christians from Finland were given land to settle on in Israel!
This video covers some of their amazing beginnings, how they decided on the name, "Yad Hashmona" which means 'memorial to the eight,' and what they have become to the present day - well-known for its beautiful location, lodging and meeting facilities, Biblical Village and Garden, and more.
Below are some short clips from the longer video that Ayelet Ronen (from Y.H.) and I worked on together. A segment of the video filmed during one of the feasts was filmed by a different videographer, and the vocalist songs in the background are from local Messianic recording artists from Israel.

Yad Hashmona trailer
In 2010-11, I had the opportunity to spend some time in this village of believers, both Jew and Gentile. They are located in the beautiful Judean hills about 10 miles west of Jerusalem and many of their lodging and restaurant facilities are built from imported Finnish pine. This video is a trailer for the longer video I did for them as I worked together with one of the ladies there named Ayelet Ronen. |

Yad Hashmona History
This village of believers both Jew and Gentile, have a history that is nothing short of amazing. Over 40 years ago, a group of Finnish Christians came to Israel to help rebuild the land. Through much hardship, they eventually were given their own land on which to settle. This is rather miraculous ... for non-Jews to be given their own settlement! |

Yad Hashmona, Memorial to the Eight
During World War II, eight Jewish refugees in Finland were handed over to the Germans and led away to concentration camps. All but one died there. Yad Hashmona named itself after these 8, for it means "memorial to the eight," although it is now known that this number was more than eight. Years later, a memorial was set up in a park in Helsinki in honor of their remembrance. |

Yad Hashmona Biblical Garden/Village
Y.H. has an outdoor area with Biblical models such as wine and oil presses, a threshing floor, watchtower, mikveh, and others. Guides from the moshav teach the Spiritual significance of these from a Biblical and perspective. For example: You will learn how an oil press crushed olives to make oil for lamps and hence light. Believers, too, are at times "crushed" spiritually so our lives can give light. |
